BELLEVILLE — A woman visiting a St. Clair County apartment complex claims she was injured when she slipped on ice.
Tracy Thomas filed a complaint Dec. 3 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Copper Creek Crossings Apartments LLC, alleging negligence.
Thomas was visiting a tenant of the Copper Creek Crossings Apartments on Freedom Drive in Belleville on Dec. 10, 2018, according to her complaint. She alleges that water dripped from a "building/structure" and formed "directly outside" on the stoop of the apartment where she was visiting and froze into ice. Thomas claims she slipped on the icy patch and struck the ground which caused her to suffer injuries.
Thomas claims she has incurred medical treatment expenses as a result of her injuries. Thomas accuses the defendant of negligently failing to prevent water and ice from collecting in walkway areas at the complex and failing to maintain the complex's gutters and downspouts. She also claims the defendants failed to warn of the hazardous condition, failed to inspect the property and failed to "adequately" maintain the common areas at the apartment complex.
Thomas seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Daniel Broombaugh of Caraway, Fisher & Broombaugh PC in Belleville.
