Former Amazon distribution facility employee sues over alleged age discrimination

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A former employee at an Amazon distribution facility run by Jones Lang Lasalle Americans claims he suffered discrimination and termination because of his age.

Steve Thomas filed a complaint Nov. 30 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Jones Lang Lasalle Americans Inc., and Sean Coser, alleging violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), retaliation and intentional interference of economic advantage.

According to the complaint, Thomas was employed by Jones Lang Lasalle, which is an Amazon facility in Madison County, and was 57 years old during his last period of employment with the company. He alleges he was faced with a hostile work environment and was treated "differently" than his younger coworkers due to his age.

Thomas also alleges he was terminated by Jones Lang Lasalle and "precluded from working" at another Amazon distribution facility, CBRE where he was offered a job after his termination. He claims the defendant sent "incomplete and inaccurate information" to his potential employer CBRE, who then rescinded its job offer.

Thomas claims the defendant "intentionally and wrongfully interfered" with his "economic relationship" and that his former supervisor, Cosner, "acted maliciously with personal animosity" against him. He received a Notice of Right-to-Sue from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Sept. 1, 2020.

Thomas seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. He is represented by Michael Brunton and Mary Stewart of The Brunton Law Office PC in Collinsville.
