BELLEVILLE — The makers and distributors of the NutriBullet are facing a class action alleging the product is a safety hazard due to its alleged extreme air pressurization.

Jordan Meister, individually and on behalf of all other similarly situated current citizens of Illinois, filed a complaint Nov. 16 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Nutribullet LLC, Homeland Housewares LLC, Capital Brands Distribution LLC and Capital Brands Holdings Inc., alleging violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and Illinois Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

Meister alleges in his complaint that he purchased the defendants' NutriBullet Blender at Walmart in 2017. He claims that the blender causes a safety risk and that its "ordinary use can result in personal injury." Specifically, Meister claims the high-speed rotating blades of the blender "cause food content and air inside the canister to heat up," which increases air pressure. He alleges the air pressurizes so much that it causes the canister to "separate from the blade assembly and power base" while the blender is still running. Meister claims this causes "hot contents" in the blender to "explode out and onto the user and anyone in proximity which can cause severe burns and other injuries.

Meister seeks compensation, interest and all other proper relief. He is represented by David Nelson of Nelson &. Nelson Attorneys At Law PC in Belleville and Matthew Armstrong of The Armstrong Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
