Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A man claims a hunter purposely shot at him with a crossbow while hunting wild turkeys at a farm in Madison County.

Eric Rheude filed a complaint  Nov. 24 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Darrell Forsythe, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Rheude was on the Elliott farm in Madison County on April 19. He claims Forsythe, who was hunting wild turkeys on the farm, observed him sitting against a tree and shot him in the forearm with a crossbow.  Rheude claims Forsythe shot at him "in anger" in an "attempt to scar him."

Rheude alleges Forsythe was illegally hunting at the time of the alleged incident because he did not hold a valid hunting permit.

Rheude claims he suffered permanent injuries "both internally and externally." As a result of his injuries, he claims he incurred medical expenses, lost time from work and has been unable to attend to his usual duties.

Rheude seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Edward Unsell and Joshua Evans of The Unsell Law Firm PC in East Alton.
