Suit alleges women suffered injuries during unnecessary hysterectomy

Federal Court

A woman claims she suffered a rectal fistula during an unnecessary hysterectomy at the Alton Women’s Health Center.

Melody Miller and Sandra Miller filed the complaint on Nov. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against the United States of America.

According to the complaint, Melody Miller visited Dr. Olamide Kolade, who specializes in Obstetrics/Gynecology. Kolade is allegedly employed by the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation, which is a not-for-profit that includes the Alton Women’s Health Center. The complaint states that Kolade negligently performed a vaginal hysterectomy that was not medically necessary and created a rectal fistula.

Melody Miller claims she suffered permanent injuries, pain, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement, and loss of a normal life. She also allegedly incurred medical expenses.

Sandra Miller was allegedly the wife of Melody Miller, the suit states.

The plaintiffs seek compensation in excess of $75,000 for each count, plus court costs.

They are represented by Samantha Unsell of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville.
