Motorist sues over East St. Louis collision

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE —  A trucking company employee is accused of causing an East St. Louis collision that allegedly resulted in another driver suffering severe injuries.

Phillip Jones filed a complaint Oct. 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Zade Trucking LLC, Zodie LLC, Dana Howard and Roderick Jones, alleging vicarious liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he was driving his vehicle near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and North 20th Street in East St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2019. He alleges that Roderick Jones, who was driving a vehicle owned by Zade Trucking, pulled out in front of him and struck his vehicle on the driver's side. According to the plaintiff's complaint, Phillip Jones' vehicle then hit a utility pole, causing him to suffer injuries to his head, shoulder, neck, right knee and other parts of his body.

He claims that Roderick Jones was negligent for failing to keep a "careful lookout" and failing to reduce his speed. The plaintiff also claims the defendant was driving at an "excessive rate of speed than was reasonable and proper for the conditions" and should have seen "that a collision was impending." Phillip Jones adds that Roderick Jones had "ample time and opportunity" to avoid the collision.

As a result, Phillip Jones claims he has lost wages and enjoyment of life due to his injuries.

The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. He is represented by George Albers of Albers Law LLC in Granite City.
