BELLEVILLE — A man claims Memorial Hospital and one of its orthopedic surgeons negligently performed a hip replacement surgery and caused him to suffer permanent damage.
Patrick Holtgrove filed a complaint Nov. 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Gregory Simmons, M.D., Fairview Heights Medical Group, S.C., and Protestant Memorial Medical Center Inc., doing business as Memorial Hospital, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Holtgrove underwent hip replacement surgery on Nov. 7, 2018. She surgery was allegedly performed by Simmons at Memorial Hospital.
The plaintiff alleges that due to the negligent care of the defendants, he has suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement. Holtgrove specifically claims in his suit that Simmons "cut/injured abductor tendons" during the surgery, failed to recognize the injury prior to closing his wound and failed to "confirm the integrity and attachment of abductor tendons."
Holtgrove also claims Simmons failed to "refer" him to manage his tendon injury. He claims that the defendants' alleged negligence also caused him to incur additional medical expenses.
Holtgrove seeks compensation of more than $75,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Samantha Unsell of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville.
