Illinois Supreme Court issued the following announcement on Nov. 6.
Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Judge Christopher P. Threlkeld as a Resident Circuit Judge, Madison County, in the Third Judicial Circuit. Judge Threlkeld is currently serving as a Resident Circuit Judge in the Third Circuit under a temporary appointment made when Judge David A. Hylla retired earlier this year. Judge Threlkeld is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge David W. Dugan to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois on September 16, 2020. “
Judge Threlkeld has served the citizens ably during his time on the bench, and his appointment to fill the vacancy is warranted by his performance thus far. He is decisive, fair and impartial. It’s what one should expect from a good judge,” said Chief Judge William A. Mudge.
The appointment takes effect on December 7, 2020, and will conclude on December 5, 2022, when the vacancy will be filled by the winner of the November 2022 general election. “I would like to thank Justice Karmeier and the Supreme Court for this opportunity,” Judge Threlkeld said.
“I have enjoyed serving during the previous temporary appointment and I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Madison County.” Judge Threlkeld has served on the bench since February 1, 2020. He has extensive courtroom experience in both civil and criminal cases at the state and federal levels and was previously a partner with the law firm of Lucco, Brown, Threlkeld & Dawson LLP. He started with this firm in 2000 as an associate.
Judge Threlkeld graduated from The Citadel with a B.A. in Political Science and earned his Juris Doctor from the Saint Louis University School of Law. He also holds an M.B.A from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Judge Threlkeld’s professional associations include the Madison County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and the Missouri Bar Association. He is a past president of the Madison County Bar Association.
The Third Judicial Circuit encompasses Madison and Bond counties.
