EDWARDSVILLE — A patient claims she suffered injuries from a blood clot following knee surgery because her physician failed to suspend or monitor the plaintiff's hormone replacement therapy.

Christine Butler filed a complaint Oct. 19 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Matthew Bradley, M.D., and Midwest Bone & Joint Surgery, PC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Butler underwent knee surgery on March 6 at Midwest Bone & Joint performed by Bradley. Butler alleges she suffered a DVT blood clot because Bradley failed to "suspend the hormone replacement therapy" she was on, failed to "issue a post-operative order for DVT prophylaxis" and failed to consult with her primary care doctor regarding her treatment and condition.

She claims Bradley's alleged negligence caused her to "sustain severe and permanent injury" that has "hindered and prevented" her from "attending to her usual duties and affairs of life." She claims she has "expended large sums of money" for medical expenses and treatment.

Butler also alleges in her complaint that her medical records have been reviewed by a physician "in the same or similar specialty" as Bradley, who determined there was a "reasonable and meritorious cause of action."

Butler seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Mark Johnson of Johnson, Schneider & Ferrell LLC in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
