Woman claims Best Buy employee steered cart into her at Fairview Heights store

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A shopper claims she suffered injuries after a Best Buy employee allegedly steered a cart into her as she was pushing a wheelchair at the Fairview Heights store.

Dena Donelson and Rodney Caffey, as special administrator of the Estate of Robert Donelson, filed a complaint Oct. 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Best Buy and Carly Hoss, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the Donelsons were shopping at the Best Buy located on Plaza Drive in Fairview Heights on Dec. 13, 2018. The plaintiffs allege that Dena Donelson was pushing Robert Donelson, who is now deceased, in a wheelchair. At the same time, Best Buy's employee, Hoss, was pushing a cart "stacked high with cartons" that were allegedly blocking her vision. Donelson claims Hoss steered the cart into the plaintiffs.

Dena Donelson claims she suffered injuries to her right leg, ankle and other parts of her body.

She also claims she suffered mental anguish and loss of normal life as well as has incurred medical expenses "in endeavoring to cure herself of said injuries."

The plaintiff alleges Best Buy and its employee were negligent by failing to "transport products safely" and failing to warn the Donelsons that "products were being transported." She also claims Best Buy was negligent in failing to "provide safety training" to its employees.

Donelson seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Michael Glisson and Taylor Fehrenz of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
