HEYL ROYSTER: Three New Attorneys Join the Firm in Champaign, Chicago, and Edwardsville Offices

Heyl Royster issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.

Heyl Royster is pleased to announce the addition of three accomplished attorneys to our law firm.

Katie Anderson has joined us in our Champaign office. She initially practiced for a respected firm in Decatur from 2007 through 2016. Her practice focused on medical malpractice defense, as well as creditor bankruptcy work, representation of corporate clients, estate planning, and civil litigation. In 2016, Katie became general counsel for a central Illinois hospital and managed risk, compliance, regulatory, insurance, and medical staff matters. Katie grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and attended Case Western Reserve University Law School.

Karl Bayer has joined us in our Chicago office. Karl graduated with degrees in political science and Latin from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, in 1992 and received his J.D. in 1996 from John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Working exclusively as a litigator since 1996, Karl has tried over 100 jury trials, countless arbitrations and numerous mediations. He was the contemnor in the landmark Illinois Supreme Court decision of Palm v. Holocker, Karl Bayer, contemnor, 2018 IL 123152, protecting the health information of defendants who have not placed their health information at issue in the litigation. He has been appointed Special Assistant to the Attorney General for the state of Illinois. While most of his career has been spent representing defendants in personal injury cases in every county of Northern Illinois, Karl also has experience as a plaintiff’s lawyer, which helps him in his defense prospective.

Karen Moske has joined us in our Edwardsville office and concentrates her practice on professional liability/medical malpractice. She previously practiced with a small defense firm in Chesterfield, Missouri, primarily in St. Louis (City and County), but also throughout Eastern Missouri. Karen has frequently been involved in defending hospitals, physicians, nurses, and other health care providers. She received her undergraduate degree from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri, and practiced as a respiratory therapist in hospitals in Kansas City and also in Austin, Texas. She attended law school at the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating from law school, Karen relocated to St. Louis to practice with a firm in downtown St. Louis.
