EDWARDSVILLE – Granite City claims it had to repair a sewer line after it was allegedly damaged by a contractor during excavation work.
Granite City filed a complaint Oct. 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Terry Gust and City Home Services, alleging damage to real property.
According to the complaint, Gust was working as a contractor doing business as City Home Services. He was allegedly doing excavation work in Granite City in September 2019 at a site that was located near a portion of the city's sewer line. Granite City alleges that after Gust performed the excavation work, it noticed an "abnormal surface depression at or near the site." The city claims Gust cracked a sewer main and damaged a sewer riser, causing a sink hole.
Granite City also claims it spent $52,986 to repair Gust's alleged "unlawful intrusion and destruction" of the city's sewer line.
Granite City seeks monetary compensation of $52,986 and all other just relief. It is represented by Ryan Robertson, assistant city attorney for Granite City.
