BELLEVILLE — A mother is claiming an East St. Louis School District nurse gave her diabetic daughter the wrong dose of medication, which caused the child to pass out, fall and suffer fractures.
Tiffany Thompson, individually and on behalf of minor W.T., filed a complaint Sept. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against East St. Louis School District No. 189 and Unknown School Nurse, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, W.T., who is a diabetic, was attending Annette Officer Elementary School in St. Clair County on Sept. 26, 2019. Thompson alleges that on that date, shortly after receiving her diabetic injection from the school nurse, W.T. became hypoglycemic, "passed out and fell off the playground equipment." W.T. suffered "multiple fractures" and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Thompson claims the school district and its nurse were negligent for administering an improper dose of medication to W.T. and for not following the physician's orders for administering the injection.
Thompson also claims that W.F. suffered "intense pain," disfigurement and "loss of normal life" as a result of her losing consciousness and falling on the playground.
Thompson seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, litigation costs and all other just relief. She is represented by David Cates of Cates Mahoney LLC.
