BELLEVILLE — A woman is suing her Southwestern Illinois College after she allegedly slipped on a puddle of liquid on the floor and fell.
Madisyn Wheatley filed a complaint Sep. 2 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Southwestern Illinois College, Community College District #522, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Wheatley's employer rented space from Southwestern Illinois College, Community College District #522. She alleges that on Sept, 10, 2019, she was walking on the defendant’s premises when she slipped on "liquid" on the floor.
Wheatley claims she suffered "great pain and anguish" and loss of normal life. She also claims she has not been able to attend to her usual duties and affairs and has required medical treatment.
She alleges in her complaint that Southwestern Illinois College failed to maintain and inspect the floor and failed to provide proper warning about the liquid that allegedly caused the plaintiff's injuries.
Wheatley also alleges Southwestern Illinois College knew or should have known about the "unsafe condition" and that it had a duty to prevent "unreasonable risk of injury to the public."
Wheatley seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Kenneth Beljanski of Brown & Brown LLP of Fairview Heights.
