Steak and Shake accused of negligence in slip, fall suit

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A woman claims a Steak and Shake restaurant failed to maintain its property in a safe condition, resulting in her alleged slip and fall.

Sharon Reed filed a complaint Aug. 26 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Steak and Shake Enterprises Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Reed was at a Steak and Shake on Lincoln Trail in Fairview Heights on Aug. 31, 2018. She claims that as she was exiting the restaurant, she slipped on water that had accumulated on the floor and suffered injuries to her knee, ankle and arm.

Reed also claims she suffered injuries to her lower back, soft tissues of the cervical, shoulder and lumbar area as well as to her muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves.

Reed claims she has incurred expenses for medical care, treatment and services as a result of her injuries and suffered lost wages.

Reed alleges that Steak and Shake was negligent for failing to properly maintain the property and for failing to warn customers of the wet condition that allegedly existed on the floor. She also alleges they were negligent for failing to place a mat at the entrance to the restaurant, which could have prevented wet spots.

Reed seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Kirk Caponi of Williams, Caponi and Associates PC in Belleville.
