Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A man claims he was fired from Metro East Industries in retaliation after suffering an injury on the job.

Christopher Spraggs filed a complaint Aug. 27 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Metro East Industries Inc., alleging retaliatory discharge.

According to the complaint, Spraggs alleges that on July 21 he was working for Metro East when he suffered injuries. He claims he notified Metro East of his injury, which included a "potential infection." Spraggs alleges in his lawsuit that after work that day, he was sent by his employer to Midwest Occupational Medicine but was not given medical treatment and ordered to have a urinalysis. He also claims that on that same day, he received treatment from his own doctor and also had a clear urinalysis.

Spraggs was terminated the next day on July 22 and claims it was a "retaliatory discharge."

Spraggs alleges he lost wages and benefits. He also claims he suffered humiliation and mental anguish and that his termination was "willful, wanton, malicious and in disregard for his rights."

Spraggs seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. He is represented by Keith Short of Keith Short and Associates PC in Alton.
