Professional arm wrestler and event organizers sued by competitor who suffered bicep rupture

State Court

A DeSoto, Mo. man who claims he suffered a distal bicep rupture in an arm wrestling contest is suing event organizers, sponsors and the professional who allegedly hurt him.

Plaintiff Ryan Moss says the contest took place at the Gateway racetrack, now known as World Wide Technology Raceway, in Madison on Aug. 25, 2018, during a Bommarito Automotive Group 500 racing event.

Moss says those competing with wrestler Travis Lee Bagent were first required to drop and catch a heavy weight three times with the intention of tiring out challengers ahead of time.

"Plaintiff and the other contestants were not adequately trained on the contest rules and had never been trained as to safety procedures for the arm-wrestling contest or other emergencies at the event," states the complaint filed Aug. 18 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Moss claims he ruptured his right arm bicep, requiring surgeries and extensive medical treatment. He claims pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement and mental anguish.

The long list of defendants includes the raceway, Bommarito entities, Axalta Coating Systems, Valvoline, Cooper Tire & Rubber, Bagent and his promotions business, and Big Arm Management.

Moss is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages. He is represented by J. Brad Wilmoth of St. Louis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 20-L-1182.
