BELLEVILLE — A motorist claims he suffered injuries when his vehicle was rear-ended by a Metro-East Transit employee.

Charlie Harris filed a complaint July 29 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Metro-East Transit District of St. Clair County, doing business as St. Clair County Transit District, the St. Clair County Transit District Board of Trustees, Southwestern Illinois College, the Board of Trustees of Community College District 522 and Andra Lang, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Harris was sitting at a red light at the North Belt West and Royal Heights Road intersection in St. Clair County on Sept. 15, 2019. He claims Lang, who was operating a vehicle as an employee of the defendants, "slammed" into the back of his vehicle.

Harris claims he suffered injuries to his neck and back and has suffered loss of work and enjoyment of life due to being "impaired" as a result of the collision.

He also claims he has incurred medical expenses due to his injuries. Harris alleges in his complaint that Lang was driving the vehicle "at an excessive rate," was following his vehicle too closely and failed to stop, slow down or swerve to avoid hitting his car.

Harris seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Shaun Falvey of Goldblatt + Singer PC in St. Louis.
