EDWARDSVILLE — A diabetic patient claims he suffered a surgical wound infection after Saint Anthony's delayed his follow-up treatment by terminating his physician.
Dennis Jarden filed a complaint Aug. 3 in the Madison County Circuit Court against OSF Healthcare System, doing business as OSF Saint Anthony's Health Center, and OSF Multi-Speciality Group, alleging institutional and medical negligence.
According to his complaint, Jarden began seeing Dr. Lindsay at Saint Anthony's Hospital for treatment of a foot issue due to his diabetes. Jarden underwent surgery on his foot, which was performed by Lindsay on March 5, 2018. He claims that Lindsay completed follow-up treatment of his surgery from March 2018 through July 2018, which included weekly evaluations and X-rays due to his wound's "slow healing."
Jarden alleges that on Aug. 6, 2018, Saint Anthony's notified him that Lindsay was no longer employed by the hospital and gave him a list of five "other physicians" to contact for his continued care. He alleges that three of the five doctors on the list were not accepting new patients and the other two doctors could not work him in for a month. He was evaluated on Aug. 21, 2018 by a new doctor who diagnosed him with a foot infection and required "immediate hospitalization," additional surgeries and rehabilitation.
Jarden claims "disruption to his wound care" caused his further injury.
Jarden seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, and all other just relief. He is represented by Nolan Drafahl of The Drafahl Law Firm in St. Louis.
