EDWARDSVILLE — A woman is claiming she suffered severe chemical burns from the products applied to her hair at an Alton J.C. Penney Salon.

Tracy Woodson filed a complaint July 15 in the Madison County Circuit Court against J.C. Penney Corporation Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Woodson was a customer at the J.C. Penney Salon in Alton on March 30, 2019. She alleges in her complaint that while having hair products applied to her hair, she suffered burns to her body.

Woodson claims the chemicals were applied to her hair "in a negligent manner" which caused "burns, rashes and nerve damage." Woodson also claims in her suit that her head was "seriously burned," which has caused her "great pain and mental anguish."

She alleges she spent "large sums of money" for the treatment of her injuries and that the salon violated Title 68 of the Professions and Occupations Administrative Code through its negligent actions.

Woodson also alleges her injuries are permanent, making her "unable to carry on the usual duties" as well as causing her financial burden "for the remainder" of her life.

Woodson seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Morgan Scroggins of The Scroggins Law Office Ltd in Granite City.
