Services for Illinois State Trooper Nicholas Hopkins, killed in the line of duty while serving a search warrant at a home in East St. Louis early Friday morning, have been scheduled later in the week at Waterloo High School.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 31. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at the high school with Paster Jamey Bridges of Life Community Church in Columbia officiating.
Hopkins and other members of a SWAT team were making entry into the home at 5:30 a.m. when he was shot by a suspect later identified as Christopher R. Grant, 45. Grant was charged with first degree murder on Saturday.
Hopkins had served with the Illinois State Police for 10 years. He is survived by his wife Whitney and children Evelyn, Owen and Emma.
