Chuhak & Tecson, P.C., is proud to announce that attorney Leynee A. Cruz will be formally inducted as president of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois (HLAI) at its annual charity gala on Friday, June 21.
The gala, organized to support law students with scholarships so they can prepare for the Bar Examination and Law School Admission Test, is set for 6 to 10 p.m. at W Chicago - City Center, 172 W. Adams St. Tickets are $150 per person for members, $175 for non-members and can be purchased.
Cruz began her commitment to HLAI in 2014 by serving on their charities board. She quickly moved through the ranks due to her remarkable aptitude for leadership and board management and in 2017 took the helm as the association’s treasurer and also co-chaired the Latina Lawyers Committee. Throughout 2018 she has shadowed and worked with HLAI’s current president, Juan Morado, Jr.
“She’s dedicated an enormous amount of time learning the president’s responsibilities and I am so excited for the future of HLAI under Leynee Cruz,” said Morado. “She is a dynamic leader who represents the best of our profession and the future of our organization. I am confident with her leadership that HLAI will continue to thrive and grow.”
Licensed in Illinois and Florida, Cruz advises clients in trust and estate matters and in all aspects of probate and guardianship administration and litigation. She is often appointed Guardian Ad Litem by Cook County Probate Division judges to assist in matters relating to adult and minor guardianship.
Cruz’s ascent into community service began as a law student when she founded the Elder Law Society at St. Thomas University School of Law, Miami, FL. Upon moving to Chicago she volunteered for the Center for Disability & Elder Law where she advised, drafted and executed estate planning documents for low-income elderly and disabled clients. Cruz continues to provide pro bono legal services to the Center for Disability & Elder Law and serves on their young professionals’ board. She is also a trustee for the Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois.
Cruz’s accolades include being distinguished as a 2019 Rising Star with Super Lawyers Magazine and a 2019 Latinos under 40 by Negocios Now.
HLAI was founded in 1996 to promote the high standards of competence, professionalism and integrity among Hispanic lawyers and communities within the state of Illinois. Since then, HLAI has branched into 15 committees and various charities, all established to empower Hispanic attorneys during their journey through the legal profession.
