Thompson Coburn is proud to announce that Erica Rancilio recently joined the Energy practice as a partner in our Washington, D.C., office. With more than 10 years of experience, Erica helps oil and natural gas producers and marketers protect their business interests in matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and in commercial negotiations. She was previously a partner at Edwards & Floom, and, prior to that, a trial attorney in the FERC’s Office of Administrative Litigation, where she negotiated and litigated natural gas pipeline and electric utility rate cases.
Erica's practice focuses on oil and natural gas pipeline regulation, pipeline tariffs and rates, regulatory compliance, jurisdictional issues, market power analyses, certificates of public convenience and necessity, abandonments, and energy policy. She advises clients on FERC policy and FERC regulation under the Interstate Commerce Act and the Natural Gas Act. An experienced litigator, she represents producers and marketers in cost-of-service rate cases, market-based rate litigation, index-based rate cases, and protests and complaints related to pipeline rates and tariffs. Erica also represents clients in complex settlement negotiations at the FERC and advises clients on commercial negotiations. She advocates on behalf of producers and marketers in rulemaking proceedings and other policy initiatives at the FERC.

Erica’s arrival at the firm comes two weeks after Kyle Simpson, Senior Advisor, and Jack Jacobson, Advisor, joined Thompson Coburn’s Lobbying & Policy group. Kyle has been a leading voice in energy policy for more than 35 years, and Jack has worked on policy related to emerging energy technologies, natural resources and environmental management, among other industries. Both have strong ties on Capitol Hill.
