Woman alleges intoxicated motorist driving the wrong way caused I-55 collision

BELLEVILLE – A motorist is seeking damages from an allegedly intoxicated, wrong-way driver that struck her while traveling on Interstate 55 in St. Clair County.

Jymia Edwards filed a complaint on Feb. 20 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Tanika Hopson, Cory Hopson, Casino Queen Inc., CQ Holding Co. Inc. and GLP Midwest Properties LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 27, 2017, she was operating her 2005 Dodge Magnum in the southbound lanes on I-55 when her vehicle was struck by Cory Hopson's vehicle, which was being driven by Tanika Hopson. The suit states Tanika Hopson was driving the wrong way.

The plaintiff alleges Tanika Hopson drove the wrong way upon a roadway restricted to one-way traffic, operated the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failed to use ordinary care to avoid collision.

Casino Queen, GLP Midwest and CQ Holding are allegedly the owners and operators of the business that sold alcohol to the driver. 

The plaintiff seeks judgement for actual damages of more than $50,000 together with all costs incurred.
