Couple sues for allege exposure to asbestos fibers, sustaining injuries

Asbestos 08

BELLEVILLE – A Navy veteran and laborer alleges that he was exposed to asbestos through third-party products and has developed cancer.

Shirley Peterson and Denise Peterson filed a complaint on Oct. 26 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Armstrong International Inc., Armstrong Pumps Inc., Aurora Pump Co., et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that between 1964 and 1981, Shirley Peterson served in the U.S. Navy, worked as a mechanic at International Harvester and held other positions with other companies. He claims he was exposed to large amounts of asbestos fibers emanating from products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants, and first became aware that he had developed lung cancer on March 27.

As a result, he alleges he sustained permanent injuries that also deprived Denise Peterson the companionship, society and services of her husband.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to conduct tests on the asbestos containing products manufactured, sold, delivered or installed in order to determine the hazards to which workers might be exposed while working with the products.

The plaintiffs seek judgment for a sum of more than $50,000 which will fairly and reasonably compensate for the injuries. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
