EDWARDSVILLE — A Wood River woman alleges she developed myelodysplastic syndrome from benzene leaks.

Brianna Gargac filed a complaint Oct. 19 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Shell Oil Co., also known as Shell Oil Products US; Shell Chemical LP, formerly known as Shell Chemical Co.; BP Products North America Inc.; Conocophillips Co.; Phillips 66 Co.; The Premcor Refining Group Inc.; and others, alleging they allowed hazardous chemicals including benzene to be emitted, leak and dumped from their facility.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she developed myelodysplastic syndrome as the result of being exposed to benzene.

Gargac alleges the defendants failed to take certain precautions to ensure benzene was not leaking out of their facilities and into nearby properties.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for damages that exceeds $50,000 and any further relief this court grants.

She is represented by Richard L. Saville Jr. of Saville Law Firm LLC in St. Louis and Christopher W. Dysart of The Dysart Law Firm PC in Chesterfield.
