BELLEVILLE — A couple is suing multiple corporations, claiming they allegedly failed to warn of the dangerous effects of asbestos.

Harvey Lapointe and Valerie Lapointe filed a complaint Oct. 17 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against AK Steel Corp., ALFA Laval Inc., Armstrong International Inc., et. al., alleging the defendants failed their duty to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of those working with and around the products containing asbestos.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that between 1974 and 2017, Harvey Lapointe worked as a mechanic, field engineer and laborer at various construction sites and claims he was exposed to, inhaled, ingested or absorbed asbestos fibers coming from certain products distributed or installed by the defendants.

As a result, he claims he was diagnosed with lung cancer April 21, which deprived Valerie Lapointe and other family members of his companionship, society and services.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to provide instructions concerning the safe methods of working with and around the products supplied, including specific instructions on how to avoid inhaling, ingesting or otherwise absorbing the asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment of more than $50,000 to fairly and reasonably compensate for the injuries. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
