Aurora Pump, others named in suit by man who alleges lung cancer was caused by asbestos

BELLEVILLE – A laborer alleges his exposure to asbestos caused him to develop lung cancer.

William Givens Jr. filed a complaint on Sept. 25 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Albany International Corp., Astenjohnson Inc., Aurora Pump Co., CBS Corp., et. al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Givens alleges that between 1960 and 1982, he was exposed to large amounts of asbestos fibers emanating from certain products distributed or installed by the defendants when he worked as a maintenance man, truck driver and heavy equipment operator at various locations. He first became aware that he had lung cancer Jan. 14, 2016, the suit states. 

The plaintiff allege the defendants failed to provide any or adequate warnings to persons working with and around the products of the dangers of inhaling the asbestos fibers contained in them.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages in an amount of more than $50,000. He is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates, PC in Edwardsville.
