BELLEVILLE – A laborer at various employers in Chicago and Elk Grove during his career alleges he was injured by asbestos exposure.
Marion Sloma filed a complaint on Aug. 9 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against A.O. Smith Corp., Armstrong Pumps Inc., Aurora Pump Co., Avocet Enterprises Inc., et al. alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Marion Sloma alleges that between 1952 and 1993 during the course of his employment with various companies and military service, he claims he was exposed to and inhaled, ingested or otherwise absorbed large amounts of asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. He was diagnosed with lung cancer on May 18 as a result of his exposure to asbestos-containing products, the suit states.
The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to provide any or adequate warnings to persons working with and around the products of the dangers of inhaling, ingesting or otherwise absorbing the asbestos fibers in them.
The plaintiff seeks damages in an amount of more than $50,000. He is represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
