Branum Oil Co. owner claims lung cancer was caused by asbestos

Asbestos 02

BELLEVILLE – The owner/operator of Branum Oil Co. alleges that exposure to asbestos caused him to develop lung cancer earlier this year.

Keith Branum and Adrienne Branum filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Armstrong Pumps Inc., Aurora Pump Co., et al., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the couple alleges that between 1951 and 2000, Keith Branum worked as a laborer at various companies and served in the military. He alleges he was exposed to and inhaled, ingested or otherwise absorbed large amounts of asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. He first became aware that he had developed lung cancer on April 27, the suit states.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to provide any or adequate warnings to persons working with and around the products of the dangers of inhaling, ingesting or otherwise absorbing the asbestos fibers in them.

The plaintiffs seek judgment for damages in an amount of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian & Associates, PC in Edwardsville.
