Woman alleges she was thrown from wheelchair lift

Wheelchair 05

BELLEVILLE – A woman alleges she was injured by the employee of a public carrier who failed to properly secure her and her wheelchair onto a lift.

Debra Carroll filed a complaint on Aug. 9 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Alternative Transportation Systems, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 4, 2016, she had arranged a transport with the defendant. The suit states that as the defendant's driver attempted to load the plaintiff and her wheelchair onto the wheelchair lift, Carroll was thrown from the wheelchair lift and suffered injuries.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant, through its employee, loaded the wheelchair improperly onto the wheelchair lift and failed to tie down or secure the wheelchair so that it would not be thrown from the wheelchair lift.

The plaintiff seeks judgment in an amount of more than $50,000 and for such other relief as the court deems just and proper.

She is represented by James R. Williams of Williams, Caponi & Associates PC in Belleville.
