Driver alleges minor ignored stop sign, caused collision in Troy

Car accident 04

EDWARDSVILLE – A motorist claims she was injured in a collision with a minor driver.

Casey Blanchette filed a complaint on Aug. 3 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Jordan Bilbrey, a minor by and through her custodial guardian Karlie Bilbrey Burnett, and Erin Garwood, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 5, 2015, she was driving west on US-40 near the intersection with Triad Lane in the City of Troy when Bilbrey proceeded through the stop sign without stopping and collided with the plaintiff. The suit states Bilbrey was driving a vehicle owned by Garwood.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to keep proper lookout, proceeded through an intersection with a stop without regard to the safety of persons and property and failed to yield to the plaintiff's vehicle. She also alleges Garwood entrusted her vehicle to a minor who was incompetent or unfit to operate the vehicle.

The plaintiff seeks judgment in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs of action and for such other relief as the court may deem just and proper.

She is represented by Michael J. Brunton and Mary M. Stewart of Brunton Law Offices PC in Collinsville.
