Woman sues store owner over parking lot trip, fall

Slip01

BELLEVILLE — A woman is suing a store owner for allegedly failing to keep a parking lot safe and free from dangerous conditions.

Betty Patterson filed a complaint on May 2 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Heritage Property, LLC, and Sam Sang Koo Shim, alleging the store owner failed to provide a safe environment for invitees entering the premises.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 8, she was on the defendant's property when she tripped and fell while returning to her vehicle.

As a result, Patterson claims she suffered physical injuries, lost wages and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to repair or replace the pothole located in the parking lot, failed to warn plaintiff of the pothole on the parking lot and failed to barricade or block off that section with a pothole in the parking lot.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgement in an amount in excess of $50,000, costs of suit, any other further relief the court deems just and appropriate.

She is represented by Brad L. Badgley of Brad L. Bradgley, PC in Belleville.
