BELLEVILLE — A woman is suing a Belleville hospital alleging negligence in maintaining the property's elevator, which caused her to suffer injuries.

Carla Wilson filed a complaint on April 21 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Memorial Hospital Belleville and Memorial Regional Health Services Inc., claiming that the defendant failed in its duty to exercise the highest degree of care in equipping, maintaining and operating an elevator so as to avoid injury to persons carried by it.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 22, 2015, she was lawfully in the health care facility when she fell to the floor while exiting the elevator. As a result, Wilson claims she suffered physical injuries and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the hospital failed to maintain the elevator in proper and safe condition and failed to properly inspect the elevator for the carriage of passengers.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs of suit and any other further relief the court deems just and proper.

She is represented by Daniel G. Broombaugh of Caraway, Fisher and Broombaugh PC in Belleville.
