EDWARDSVILLE — A customer is suing a grocery store chain, citing alleged negligence in keeping its premises safe for patrons.
Joyce Reed filed a complaint on May 12 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Shop 'N Save Warehouse Foods Inc., based in Missouri, alleging the defendant failed to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition for shoppers.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 24, 2015, while shopping at the defendant's store on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton, Reed claims she encountered a large pool of liquid in an aisle inside the premises, which caused her to fall and sustain injuries. As a result, Reed claims she suffered physical injuries and incurred medical bills.
The plaintiff alleges the defendant allowed an unnatural pooling of liquid in an area where it knew customers would be walking, failed to post warnings to customers of the dangerous condition and failed to clean up the liquid pooled on the floor.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs of suit and any other further relief to which the court deems just and proper.
She is represented by Samuel A. Mormino Jr. of Mormino, Velloff and Snider PC in Alton.
