BELLEVILLE — A Granite City horse training facility is suing an insurance broker and its agents over alleged unfair and deceptive business practices.

GAB Secret Acres Horse Training Center Inc. filed a complaint on April 11 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Baldree Insurance Agency Company Inc., Risk Placement Services Inc. and Thomas Mabry, alleging they violated the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 30, 2016, a hail storm damaged its insured property. Markel Insurance Company denied the plaintiff's claim based upon the cancellation of its policy for non-payment of premium.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants forged the signature's of both of GAB's principals and received loan proceeds for their own benefit, which resulted in the cancellation of the plaintiff's insurance policies, and failed to procure replacement insurance coverage.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in excess of $50,000, attorneys' fees and costs.

It is represented by William L. Wimmer of William L. Wimmer, Attorney at Law in Swansea.
