Driver, passenger claim two motorists were negligent in St. Clair County collision

Car accident 39

BELLEVILLE — A driver and passenger are suing two motorists, citing alleged negligence and claiming serious injuries.

John Norton and Alexis Coleman filed a complaint last month in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mauricio Escalona and Darin Carroll alleging that the defendants failed in their duty to operate their vehicles with due care for the safety of plaintiffs and others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that, on June 11, 2016, plaintiff Norton's vehicle was stopped northbound on Route 158 at Douglas Road together with plaintiff Coleman as his passenger when their vehicle was hit by the defendants. As a result, plaintiffs claim they suffered physical injuries, loss of earnings and medical bills.

The plaintiffs allege Escalona and Carroll failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to properly apply brakes and drove their vehicles in such a manner as to cause them to strike plaintiff's vehicle.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment for an amount in excess of $50,000 individually, costs of suit and any other relief the court deems just and appropriate.

They are represented by Robert H. Pedroli Jr. of Pedroli and Gauthier in Clayton, Mo.
