Wood River Wal-Mart sued over man's slip and fall injury

Slip01

EDWARDSVILLE — A man claims he injured his leg when he slipped and fell at the Wood River Wal-Mart.

John Coffman filed a complaint on March 31 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart, alleging the retailer failed to use ordinary care and diligence to maintain store premises in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 14, 2016, while walking in the defendant's Wood River Supercenter, Store No. 1071, he slipped on a clear and slippery substance, injuring his right leg.

As a result, Coffman claims he suffered physical injuries and great pain and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Wal-Mart failed to maintain the floor of the store in a reasonably safe condition, failed to warn plaintiff of the danger presented by the presence of the substance on the floor and failed to install a non-slip surface on the floor.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in a sum of money in excess of $50,000, plus costs of the suit and any further relief to which the court deems appropriate.

He is represented by Christopher M. Donohoo of The Donohoo Law Firm PC in East Alton.
