EAST ST. LOUIS — A consumer from Belleville is suing Equifax Information Services LLC, TransUnion LLC and Experian Information Solutions Inc., as well as Scott Credit Union, citing alleged unfair and inaccurate credit reporting.

Fernando D. Grant Sr. filed a complaint on March 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois alleging that the defendants failed to comply with the Consumer Data Industry Association’s Metro 2 reporting standards.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in November 2016, he obtained a copy of his credit report. The report contained erroneous information, he claims, and as a result, he has suffered emotional distress, increased costs of credit and insurance and denial of credit opportunities. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to indicate in the report that his obligation was discharged in bankruptcy and failed to conduct a reinvestigation of his dispute.

Scott Credit Union furnished the information that the three credit reporting agencies allegedly wrongly published, the suit claims.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual, statutory and punitive damages, attorney’s fees and costs and such other relief as may be just and proper. He is represented by Travis W. Cohron of Barker Hancock & Cohron in Noblesville, Ind.
