EDWARDSVILLE — A renter is suing her landlord after she allegedly sustained injuries from mold.

Deborah J. Pratt filed a complaint on Feb. 27 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Century 21 Hartmann Realtors, owner Doug Hartmann Sr. and Vandalia Land Trust, alleging they breached their duty to use reasonable care in the maintenance and upkeep of properties.

According to the complaint, Pratt alleges mold in the walls, carpeting and ventilation system in her rented unit caused her to suffer injuries and damages.

As a result, she incurred medical expenses, suffered pain and physical injuries, the suit states.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly maintain the property to prevent water from entering the property and sub-space, failed to have a proper sump pump system to remove water from the inside of the buildings and units and failed to inspect the property for mold.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for a fair and just award in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this suit and other further relief the court deems just and proper.

She is represented by Jon E. Rosenstengel of Bonifield and Rosenstengel, PC in Belleville.
