Passenger alleges injuries from rollover Bethalto collision

Car accident 33

EDWARDSVILLE — A passenger claims a Godfrey motorist allegedly left the roadway and rolled the car he was riding in.

Derrick L. Courtland filed a complaint on Dec. 30, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Matthew S. Winkler, alleging he failed to maintain proper control of his vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 12, 2015, he was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Winkler. They were traveling southbound on Birch Drive, approaching its intersection with South Moreland Road in Bethalto, when suddenly Winkler's vehicle left the road, rolled several times and came to rest on its roof.

Courtland claims he suffered injuries to his head, neck and spine.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to operate his vehicle at a safe speed for the condition and failed to keep proper lookout for other vehicles on the road.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs of suit.

He is represented by Craig J. Jensen of MeyerJensen PC in Alton.
