Motorist accused of causing Alton collision

Car accident 29

EDWARDSVILLE — Two women are suing a motorist for allegedly striking their vehicle while attempting to make a left turn in Alton.

La'Shawna Whittenburg and Tina Whittenburg filed a complaint on Dec. 22 in Madison County Circuit Court against Mitchell T. Bowens, alleging he breached his duty to exercise ordinary care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Dec. 23, 2014, they were traveling northbound on Belle Street at the intersection of State Street in Alton when Bowens allegedly attempted to make a left turn and struck the vehicle occupied by the plaintiffs.

As a result, the plaintiffs claim they sustained serious injuries that resulted in medical expenses.

The plaintiffs allege Bowens failed to keep careful lookout, negligently disobeyed traffic control devices and failed to reduce speed or stop his vehicle to avoid collision.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensation in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs of suit.

They are represented by Craig J. Jensen of MeyerJensen PC in Alton.
