Memorial Hospital Home Health, others accused of causing infection

Medical malpractice 07

BELLEVILLE — A patient claims she suffered an infection due to improper home health care.

Donna J. Koudelka filed a complaint on Nov. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Protestant Memorial Hospital Inc., doing business as Belleville Memorial Hospital, Memorial Hospital Home Health, Jo Ann Schneider and Memorial Medical Group LLC, alleging failure to provide care after knee surgery.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that as a result of negligent home care, scar tissue where a total knee replacement had been implanted was punctured with a non-sterile device, leading to infection.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants caused the infection, failed to adequately treat the wound after the puncture and failed to notify the plaintiff's physician.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this action.

She is represented by Bruce N. Cook of Cook, Ysura, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin Ltd. in Belleville.
