BELLEVILLE — A chemical worker from Arnold, Mo., is suing Quality Carriers Inc., a trucking company, alleging negligence and insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Daniel Kaut, who was working at Afton Chemical at the time of the incident, filed a complaint on Nov. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Quality Carriers Inc. alleging that a Quality Carriers driver failed to operate a truck in a reasonable manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 23, 2015, he was performing job duties that involved climbing atop the defendant's truck when the truck began to move. Fearing for his life, he was forced to jump from the roof of the truck, injuring himself, which caused him to suffer pain, disability and medical expenses, he alleges. The plaintiff holds Quality Carriers Inc. responsible because the defendant's driver allegedly failed to keep proper lookout, failed to warn him that the truck was departing the facility and failed to allow him to safely exit the truck.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in excess of $50,000 but not more than $75,000, plus costs of suit. He is represented by Grey Chatham Jr. of Chatham & Baricevic in Belleville.
