BELLEVILLE — A man filed a Dram Shop suit against Demo's Sports Bar after an intoxicated patron allegedly assaulted him.

Alvin Denton filed a complaint on Nov. 3, in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Demo's Sports Bar Inc. alleging the business operator violated the Illinois Dram Shop Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 4, 2015, he was assaulted and beaten up by patron James Ellison on the defendant's premises.

As a result, Denton claims he suffered serious and permanent injuries resulting in medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and disability.

The plaintiff alleges Demo's Sports Bar overserved alcoholic drinks to Ellison, who was visibly intoxicated, and breached its duty to take reasonable affirmative actions to protect its business invitees.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs expended for this action and pre-judgment interest.

He is represented by Joseph M. Taylor of Taylor & Taylor PC in St. Louis.
