A woman accused of manipulating an elderly man and stealing his property denies the allegations against her.
Peter Jateff filed the lawsuit on Sept. 20 against Patricia Douglas.
According to the complaint, Jateff claims Douglas stole at least $2,500, furniture, furnishings and a 2013 Nissan car. At the time of the conversion, the plaintiff claims the property valued a total of $31,000.
Jateff claims Douglas has refused to reimburse or return the alleged stolen property despite repeated demands for her to return the items, the suit states.
As a result, the plaintiff claims he suffered damages for the loss of possessions.
Douglas answered the complaint pro se on Sept. 23, denying the allegations against her. She also requested a jury trial.
Madison County Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian granted Douglas’ request for a waiver of court fees on Sept. 30.
Jateff seeks a judgment in his favor of more than $41,000, plus punitive damages, costs of the suit and any other relief the court deems just.
He is represented by Todd Sivia and Paul Marks of Sivia Business & Legal Services PC in Edwardsville.
