Medical malpractice suit alleges misplaced catheter

BELLEVILLE — A patient filed a medical malpractice suit alleging a catheter was misplaced.

R. La Gene Vassallo filed a complaint on Oct. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Protestant Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Randolph Freeman, Anesthesia Associates of Belleville and Lindsey Landeck, alleging they failed to adhere to the standards of medical care.

According to the complaint, as a result of the defendants' alleged negligent acts and/or omissions, the plaintiff suffered severe and permanent injuries, including but not limited to vascular and internal injuries resulting in pain and suffering, mental anguish and further medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to use equipment to properly assess and complete the correct placement of a catheter and failed to detect and diagnose the improper placement of the catheter.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment exceeding $50,000 and costs of this suit. She is represented by Rhonda D. Fiss of The Law Office of Rhonda D. Fiss in Belleville.
