Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard P.C. has named associate Narcisa P. Symank to shareholder in a recent vote by its partnership.

“Honestly, this means a great deal to me,” Symank told the Record. “I see the firm’s recognition and acknowledgment of many years of hard work and commitment I’ve made to the firm since I joined it.”

Symank’s expertise lies in the areas of labor and employment law, which she has been practicing since 2007 when she graduated from law school at St. Louis University. At Sandberg and Phoenix, she divides her time between the firm’s litigation and corporate practice groups. She provides employment general counsel for the firm’s clients as well as defending them in court as a trial attorney. She has worked on a variety of cases involving claims of discrimination, breach of contract, misclassification and failure to pay overtime.

In her new role, Symank will continue to bring her experience in employment and labor law, drawing from it the experiences she has gained from working with a variety of clients at Sandberg Phoenix.

She also has a range of experience on the transactional side of the firm in both business and individual employment, severance and non-compete agreements. She has gained extensive litigation experience through the firm and its clients, giving her an edge on how juries may react in a case or when a litigation issue may arise for an employer because of an employment agreement.

“My plan is to take a more active role helping to sustain and grow our labor and employment team,” said Symank. “I’m also planning on mentoring more junior attorneys and really just continuing to champion the firm. Both internally and externally, it’s just an incredible law firm for clients. It’s just an incredible place to work.”

Symank is originally from Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She moved to Fenton, Mo. at the age of 14 with her parents and younger brother as a refugee. She received her B.A. in philosophy at St. Louis University in 2004 and her law degree from the same university in 2007. She currently resides in Webster Groves,Mo. with her husband and son.

Sandberg Phoenix has more than 100 attorneys serving the entire U.S. through seven offices located throughout Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. It primarily serves clients in the areas of business, business litigation, heath law and product liability.
