Woman blames fellow motorist for head-on crash

Car accident 06

BELLEVILLE — A woman is suing a fellow motorist, alleging negligence and insufficient measures taken to avoid a collision.

Robyn A. Whitaker filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against DeAngelo M. Watson, alleging that the defendant breached his duty to exercise reasonable care for the safety of others using the public road.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 27, 2015, she was operating her motor vehicle when the defendant, who was coming from the opposite direction, suddenly crossed into incoming traffic and struck the plaintiff's vehicle head-on. The plaintiff sustained bodily injuries that resulted in pain and mental anguish, disfigurement, lost of earning capacity and medical expenses, the suit says. The plaintiff holds Watson responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to maintain proper control of his vehicle, failed to maneuver his vehicle to avoid a collision, failed to timely apply his brakes and failed to keep proper lookout.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation in a sum in excess of $50,000, plus costs of suit and any additional relief the court deems just. She is represented by J. Michael Weilmuenster of Weilmuenster & Keck PC in Belleville.
