St. Clair County jury reaches defense verdict in collision suit

Car accident 01

A St. Clair County jury entered a defense verdict in a personal injury suit involving a Belleville collision.

The jury entered the verdict in favor of defendant Kelley Campbell on Oct. 12 in Associate Judge Randall Kelley’s courtroom.

Plaintiff Felicia Kenney Brown filed her complaint on July 29 through attorney Grey Chatham Jr. of Chatham & Baricevic in Swansea.

She argues that on Oct. 3, 3013, she was stopped at a stop sign on West Garfield Road in Belleville while Campbell was allegedly driving her vehicle southbound on Route 159 at the same time and place when she struck the plaintiff.

Brown claims Campbell failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to keep her vehicle in its proper lane of traffic and failed to make a proper turn.

Brown alleges she sustained severe and permanently disabling injuries.

Campbell answered the complaint on Sept. 5, 2014, through attorney Michael Murphy of Freeark, Harvey & Mendillo in Belleville.

She denied the allegations against her and argued that the plaintiff’s own negligence was the sole proximate cause of any alleged injuries.
